Earwigs

Measuring in at about 5/8ths of an inch, earwigs are a dark brown insect that are pretty easily identified by their large pincers on their backside. Earwigs live in soil, prefer moist areas to live, are nocturnal, and feed on organic substances like plants, crops, and other debris. During the day, earwigs like to hide under mulch, rocks, leaves, and sidewalks. Since earwigs can make up to 60 eggs in a season and can enter your home through the foundation, professional treatment and exterminators should be considered when dealing with an earwig infestation.

To control an earwig infestation, a variety of prevention techniques can be put into place. Most important is to eliminate earwig habitat. Silverfish are also nocturnal insects and they measure about half an inch to a full inch. Silverfish can survive on a variety of substances like cloth, carpet, hair, paper, and dead insects among other things and can live more about 1 year without eating anything.

To control silverfish, eliminating their habitat by controlling moisture is very important. Since silverfish love humidity, introducing a dehumidifier in areas of your home can be useful to ventilate attics and closed rooms. Clean your home by vacuuming carefully and sweeping floors, and keep your kitchen/pantry clean by sealing all food in air-tight containers to eliminate silverfish food sources.
